my music

Something about music stirs my soul more than anything else. While I think “worship music” is important, I now am pretty certain that I won’t be writing any. Not to say that it won’t be worship, if that makes sense. I want my music to cross boundaries of belief to point people towards God. I really look up to Thrice for this, they’re creating original, honest music that has a wide appeal but is so clear when you dig into its message.

The biggest barrier towards me doing something with music seems to be me. I don’t write because I don’t like what I wrote, and after trying for a little while I get frustrated with my lack of skill. I say, when I get better at this or that, then I’ll do it. It’s hard to keep at it when there’s so much to do.

    Enjoy your music no matter how you think it compares to others or sounds. Too many of us don’t sing our music, don’t share our music, don’t finish our music because we don’t think that it is good enough. Stop comparing what you are doing to others and just enjoy the music that comes to you. And, don’t be afraid to share it!

    I agree with Moodyman, write/play/perform out of your love for music, and the need to express what you have (inside==happy feelings). Most of us view our own artwork with the highest level of criticism, some times because we fear rejection and other times because we want to keep that part of us private. Another cool thing to try is a collaboration with a close friend. What better way to outlet, than to bounce your ideas off of some one that you trust. (ie: let’s hang out and jam! no agenda, no expectations)
